Assistance Program, immediately sent more
PhP500,000.00 relief aid to the provinces of Iloilo,
Aklan and Romblon which were plowed through by
Typhoon Frank (or Fengshen) on June 21, 2008.

Most of the aid was coursed through the Dioceses
of Jaro, Aklan and Romblon in the form of NFA rice
purchases, old clothes and monetary contributions.
Active parishioners Cecille Mundin and Atty.
Asuncion Kalalo were instrumental in bringing the
relief goods to parishes in  Jaro, Iloilo.

Atty. Michelle Martelino-Yu was also the conduit by
which 130 sacks of NFA rice were distributed to the
people of Aklan.  The storm left electrical and
telecommunication systems  down, inundated
Western Visayan provinces.

Mass announcements, telephone and text
messaging brigades, blog spots and email links
helped in disseminating the urgent appeals.  The
response from parishioners was overwhelming so
much so that more than a few trips had to be made
by the haulers to the airlift point.
Mindanao Evacuees Given Assistance
Rice, milk, noodles and sardines came to Digkila-an before
the blankets and the cash to buy the water tanks.
Immediately after the urgent SMS message of Fr.
Chibuike Ojilere on August 17, 2008 from the once-
adopted parish of Our Lady of Fatima Parish in
Lanao del Norte, the wheels began to roll to bring
relief to the terror-stricken people of Iligan who
have sought refuge in Fr. Chi’s impoverished
parish.  (See inside story.)

The fracas was due to the violent infiltration of MILF
brigands into the barangays of Iligan City that were
proposed to be included in the Bangsamoro
Juridical Entity.

Help came in the form of powdered milk, sardines,
instant noodles, sacks of rice, 2 water tanks,
blankets from the generosity of St. James
parishioners through their COPA office.  Speedy
help came via a gracious parishioner’s initiative to
course the deliveries through their  Cagayan de
Oro office.
